Abstract

The aim of this project is to build a handheld Portable Maintenance Support Tool (PMST) incorporating a Micro Controller Unit providing wireless interface between sensor networks and portable computer data bases for materials management and monitoring. The PMST will further incorporate an open ended sensor platform, with Analatom s micro-LPR corrosion and hypergolic fuel chemicapacitor sensors combined with off-the-shelf temperature, humidity and other sensors for specified applications. The PMST provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for rapid visualization and assessment by the user, with accessibility to historical and archived materials and spare parts through wireless interfaces to PC servers. The PMST further provides the platform for prognostics and structural health monitoring, as well as inventory management. Such a system is envisioned to provide a new level of service readiness and status monitoring for a range of high value systems, platforms, and materials. The team on the project has the necessary expertise in MEMS, sensors, embedded systems, wireless communications, data mining, and system implementation. The project, though novel, presents no technological risk. Project objects and resources have been carefully planned to ensure that all goals are obtainable.
