This proposal offers the demonstration of an advanced lightweight transparent armor that combines fused silica glass, GeminiTM spaced armor technology, advanced QuintiumTM polymer and a proprietary interlayer (TAS1411) to reduce weight by over 30% of the current state of the art. Ballistic testing will be completed on a 52 psf single laminate conventional design (control) and three fused silica based designs (36 to 38 psf). Environmental testing will demonstrate that these materials also increase the armor s durability, as the materials used have been shown to be temperature, moisture, and delamination resistant. This SBIR proposal is unique in combining four material systems that are currently available and utilizing them in a novel method to make an advanced lightweight transparent armor.
