Abstract

Office of Science R&D activities are conducted in an open but secure science environment. In this environment, the security systems deployed to protect data flows from cyber attacks must be carefully designed and deployed, so as to not hinder scientific discoveries or impede network traffic flows at data rates approaching 10 Gbps. Hence, the DOE requires the development of an ultra-high-speed Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that must be reliable, robust, and transparent to end users. This project will develop an advanced IDS that can be offloaded to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (i.e., 10 GigE) ¿SmartNIC,¿ which was developed in a previous DOE SBIR project. The SmartNIC has a powerful 12-core on-board processor that will execute the IDS. Commercial Applications and other Benefits as described by the awardeeA fast, reliable, and robust offloadable IDS software, along with the 10 GigE SmartNIC hardware, would benefit DOE users, as well as users in DoD, NASA, and industry
