Abstract

A beam position measurement system is one of the fundamental prerequisites for the successful operation of an accelerator. While large-scale accelerator facilities routinely develop these systems in-house, such systems have been out of reach for many small accelerator facilities, due to their complexity and cost. A complete solution for the integrated measurement of beam charge, position, and phase is still lacking. This project will develop a compact, economical beam charge, position, and phase electronics board, with easy signal readout, aimed at the small scale accelerator facility. Phase I will include fabrication and testing of an L-band beam pickup device with a bandpass filter, along with the fabrication and bench testing of a prototype electronics circuit board. Moreover, the market for small accelerators in industry and medicine dwarfs that for research machines.
