Abstract

Novel accelerator structures are of great interest for high energy physics research, nuclear physics, and medical purposes. Even a slight improvement could have a significant impact in the research community and industries. This project will explore a novel idea of utilizing slot resonators to simplify accelerating structures. This simplified design appears to perform better or comparably to current designs, accelerating beams up to half of the velocity-of-light. With further investigation, the design could perform compatibly with other existing accelerator structures. A prototype will be designed, fabricated, and tested. The proposed novel accelerating structure should significantly reduce the design complexity of large accelerators, leading to significant cost savings. Many new accelerators, in both the government and the commercial sector could benefit from the new design.
