Abstract

75515-Magnetic fusion experiments operate with roughly 15 minutes between shots. Performance of these experiments could improve if data from one shot could be analyzed before the next, but current computer software is too slow for this between-shot analysis. This project will modify the software currently used for fusion data analysis so that it can operate in parallel. This will allow the data analysis to be completed up to an order of magnitude more quickly while still using currently available computing hardware. Phase I will develop an automated data manager, parallel versions of two of the most widely used data analysis routines, an easy-to-use parallel version of an important math routine, and documentation of the software. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: The modified software, which builds on well-known commercial software, should be attractive to the company that developed the commercial software as well as to their commercial clients.
