Abstract

We propose to develop a 500W thermophotovoltaic based power supply by combining and optimizing our highest efficiency 2.4 micron cutoff thermophotovoltaic cells with our partners developed burner that uses conventional fuels. In Phase I, we will complete engineering design based upon existing and projected capabilities. In Phase II we will build, field and test a manufacturable prototype. In Phase III we will supply units upon customer demand and apply the technologies developed to related products. A potential market exists for TPV electrical power generation systems anywhere that an electrical power source is required. TPV systems have no moving parts so they are low maintenance and they are silent, making them especially useful for military applications. There are many commercial and spare applications for TPV power systems as well.
